MOLYKOTE® 111 Compound Silicone Lubricant & Sealant – NSF 51 & NSF 61

MOLYKOTE® 111 Compound is a versatile silicone-based grease designed for lubricating, sealing, and protecting valves, O-rings, gaskets, seals, and other components exposed to water, pressure, weather, and harsh operating environments. Its excellent water resistance, broad service-temperature range, and compatibility with many plastics and elastomers make it a dependable choice for plumbing, industrial, electrical, and general maintenance applications.

Formulated from silicone oil with an inorganic thickener, MOLYKOTE 111 provides long-lasting lubrication while helping protect sealing surfaces from water washout and environmental exposure. It also features low vapor pressure and low volatility and contains no intentionally added PTFE or PFAS.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Wide service temperature range: -40°F to 400°F (-40°C to 204°C)

  • Excellent water resistance

  • Compatible with many plastics and elastomers

  • Low vapor pressure and low volatility

  • Suitable for rubber and plastic O-rings, gaskets, and seals

  • Resists weathering and water washout

  • Can be used as both a lubricant and sealant

  • No intentionally added PTFE or PFAS

  • Meets multiple global standards for water-contact applications

Water Contact & Regulatory Standards

MOLYKOTE 111 Compound meets several recognized standards relating to water and equipment-contact applications, including:

  • NSF 51

  • NSF 61

  • FDA 21 CFR 175.300

  • WRAS / BS6920 approval for England

  • AS/NZS 4020:2018 for Australia

  • IPL Certificate of Conformity for France

  • HyCert hygiene suitability for drinking-water contact in Germany

These certifications make MOLYKOTE 111 particularly useful in applications where components may be used in or around drinking-water and water-handling systems.

Popular Applications

Valves & Plumbing Components

Lubricate control valves, pressure plug valves, water softener valves, faucet valves, and related moving or sealing components.

O-Rings, Gaskets & Seals

Ideal for many rubber and plastic O-rings, gaskets, and seals where lubrication, water resistance, and protection against sticking are required.

Vacuum & Pressure Systems

Can be used as a sealant in vacuum and pressure systems where a durable silicone compound is appropriate.

Outdoor & Marine Equipment

Suitable for equipment exposed to washing, weather, and harsh environments, including shipboard applications, meters, electrical service entrances, and underground electrical connections.

Electrical & Electronic Equipment

Can serve as a damping medium for dash pots in electrical and electronic equipment and as an anti-stick compound for transformer gaskets and equipment enclosures.

How to Apply

MOLYKOTE 111 Compound can be applied:

  • By hand

  • By brushing or wiping

  • With specially designed automated equipment

  • With compatible grease-dispensing equipment

Certain grease gun designs may seize when dispensing this material, so equipment should be tested before regular use.

Chemical Resistance

MOLYKOTE 111 is generally resistant to:

  • Mineral oils

  • Vegetable oils

  • Air exposure

  • Dilute acids

  • Dilute alkalines

  • Most aqueous solutions

Because operating conditions such as chemical composition, pressure, flow velocity, relubrication requirements, and equipment design can vary, DuPont recommends testing the compound under actual end-use conditions before adopting it for regular use.

Storage & Shelf Life

When stored in its original unopened container between 0°C and 40°C (32°F to 104°F), MOLYKOTE 111 Compound has a usable life of 60 months from the date of production.

Safety & Handling

According to the current Safety Data Sheet, MOLYKOTE 111 Compound is classified under OSHA GHS criteria as not a hazardous substance or mixture.

For transportation, the SDS lists the product as not regulated for DOT ground, IMDG sea, or IATA/ICAO air transport.

Always review the current Safety Data Sheet before handling.

Important Use Notes

  • Do not use with liquid oxygen or in applications requiring LOX compatibility.

  • Avoid applying to surfaces that will later be painted or finished because coatings may not properly adhere to silicone-treated surfaces.

  • Test compatibility and performance under actual end-use conditions before regular use.

Why Choose MOLYKOTE® 111 Compound?
