3M DP-420 Black is a toughened two-part epoxy Structural Adhesive offering outstanding shear and peel adhesion and very high levels of durability. The structural adhesive that provides good strength along with high impact and vibration resistance to meet demanding bonding challenges.
3M ScotchWeld Epoxy Adhesive DP420 can replace mechanical fasteners, screws, rivets and spot welds in many applications. The Epoxy Adhesive 420 maintains bond strength at high and low temperatures and can withstand paint bake operations up to 400°F for 30 minutes. It is optimized for Carbon Fiber (CFRP) and works well on a variety of substrates such as metals, ceramics, wood, many plastics and glass and is an excellent indoor bonding agent for joining, gluing, potting, panel bonding and structural bonding.
Substitutes and Alternates:
- Maven Epoxy EAF420
- Araldite 2019
- Araldite 2031-1
The ScotchWeld; Epoxy Adhesive 420 dispenses as a medium viscosity adhesive for easy, controlled application. The adhesive reaches handling strength in approximately two hours and is fully cured in 24 hours (at 72°F/22°C).
3M Scotch-Weld DP420 is a high-performance, two-part toughened epoxy adhesive that provides outstanding shear and peel strength. It is engineered for applications that require a strong, durable, and impact-resistant bond. With a 20-minute work life, it allows for more time to position and adjust components compared to faster-setting epoxies, making it a benchmark product for demanding bonding applications in a variety of industries.
Popular Applications & Uses

Comparison Note
- 3M DP420 is a step up in performance from faster epoxies like DP405. It trades the 5-minute speed of DP405 for a longer 20-minute work life and significantly higher ultimate shear and peel strength. Compared to Loctite E-20HP, it offers very similar performance characteristics and is often considered a direct alternative for high-strength, general-purpose structural bonding.
